How to get bronzed glowing skin overnight

We’ve finally come into the summer months but the sun rarely sticks around in this country! We all long for a day of catching a little vitamin D and a healthy glow so heres a few secrets to faking the healthy holiday tan and helping you to feel that little bit more confident when its comes to flashing the flesh.

Before applying any tanning products exfoliating is a big must. Look out for and target the dry patches as this will ensure your skin is left silky smooth and the tan will not cling to any dry areas. If you do have dry spots be sure to moisturise daily, a few days before you plan to tan. It is worth mentioning that it’s a big no no to moisturise before, as this will affect it sitting properly on your skin - make sure your skin is dry and product free before application.

I have been enjoying Body Shop Honeymania Body Scrub which smells amazing and leaves your skin feeling extra soft.

Products for your body

I have recently discovered a brand called Bondi Sands through Instagram. They are an Australian brand but have recently launched in Superdrug. Having heard such good things I had to try it! I picked up the Self Tanning Foam in Dark. This has a mild coconut scent, no sign of the usual biscuity smell. Applied with a mitt it glides on smoothly covering all ares - the longer you leave on the darker the colour. I was really happy with this product as the colour is so natural and not orange at all as it has a slight greenish ash tone before washed off. A must try!

My usual go to tan product for summer is St Tropez Everyday Gradual Tan Body. Its great for getting an everyday glow that really is effortless and easy. Apply a layer just before bed to wake up with radiant skin!

Products for your face

Clarins Radiance Plus Booster has to be one of my favourite ever products. It is an oil that you can add into your daily skincare routine leaving you with a healthy looking glow. Simply add a few drops into your daily moisturiser morning or night. This product does leave a slight biscuit smell but a very mild one that is quickly forgotten when you realise how natural the colour turns out. A few people have even asked me if I've been on holiday when using this product! It definitely delivers what we want and without damaging our delicate skin in the sun. Win win.

Let me know if you have any secrets that you find work for you. Happy tanning!

Stuck for a skincare routine?

I thought I'd put together a nice and easy skincare routine that will be great to use leading up to your wedding day, but also a great habit to get into to ensure fabulous skin all year round!!

It's really important to take a little time out of your day to pamper your skin - just 10 mins is all you need morning and night.

Firstly it's great to use a cleanser to remove makeup and daily dirt from your face. I have been loving cream and balm cleansers recently, and they are great for most skin types. Massage onto a dry face and then emulsify and cleanse off with a flannel and warm water. The balm like cleansers feel amazing on the skin and have a real luxurious feel! I find they are also great for taking off even the most stubborn waterproof mascara if you prefer a quick routine that takes makeup off and cleanses in one go. If you have sensitive eyes opt to take eye makeup off separately and then concentrate on applying the cleanser to your face avoiding the eye area.

Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel and Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser are two products that I have found work their magic. I have also been loving Body Shop Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter recently. It leaves your skin feeling really smooth and clean without that tight feeling you sometimes get after cleansing. With a price tag of £12 it is a must try if you fancy something new!

I must admit I am a big fan of exfoliating. It not only helps to remove dead skin cells revealing a glowing complexion but also creates a great surface for a flawless makeup application.

I wouldn't recommend exfoliating in the evening or morning before your wedding (we don't want any unwanted redness!) but a day or two before is perfect.

One of my favourite exfoliating products is Dermalogica Microfoliant. It's comes in powder form - sprinkle half a teaspoon onto really wet hands, rub together and this gives you an exfoliating paste!

Always remember to moisturise - whether your skin is oily or dry it will always benefit from a good moisturiser that is suited to your skin.

One of my favourite light moisturisers for underneath makeup is Dermalogica Active Moist. Amazing for normal to oily skinned ladies! For dryer skins Embryolisse lait-crème concentré is a brilliant one to use after exfloliating. Use before bed and wake up with smooth and perfectly plumped skin.

I have also been really enjoying the Aromatherapy Associates Nourishing Facial Oil before bedtime (mentioned in a previous post). It feels so luxurious on your skin and you do feel a difference in your skin when the dreaded alarm goes off and it's morning time!

Let me know if you found this post helpful and and also if you have any skin secrets of your own you may like to share :)

Happy bank holiday weekend everyone! Have a good one x

Wedding day essentials

As a bridal hair and make up artist I get a good insight to a bride's special day - from seeing what they have for breakfast to helping them put their veil in just before they set off. The morning goes so quickly!

You don't want to be worrying about your daytime essentials so I've put together a few little saviours that will help to keep you feeling fresh, gorgeous and without a hair out of place.

Deodorant (roll on or spray)

This will keep you feeling fresh though out the day - from the nervous moments saying 'I do' to showing off your best moves on the dance floor!

Compact mirror

A handy little number that is great for in the car touch-ups or to check you haven't got any unwanted dinner hiding in your teeth before talking to all of your guests!

Lipstick & balm

Whether it's in the morning or in the evening when you fancy a change of colour, it's always handy to have your favourite lipstick close by. If your lips tend to get a little dry (especially in the winter months) also carry a balm with you - Elizabeth Arden 8 hour balm or Lucas paw paw are perfect!

Powder or blot sheets

These are perfect for blotting away the shiny t-zone that creeps up on you as the night comes along. You'll be looking shine free and flawless even in those evening photographs.

Hair grips

For the unruly hairs that escape even the most perfect of up-dos. I usually put together a little selection of grips for the bridal party to see them through the day.

Three secrets to volumised, fuller hair that every girl needs to know!

We all have those days when your hair is freshly washed, flat and just a nightmare to get any oomph into. Here are a few tips that I find help towards a perfect hair day!

1. Products - To stop that annoying fluffy, floppy hair look its definitely time to call upon a few hair product heroes.

Salt spray - Amazing at giving your hair texture and grip. Perfect for spraying in before an up do or great before curling as it will help your style stay and last longer. Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray is one of my favourites!

Mousse - Put into dry hair and roughly blow dry before curling or straightening for a longer lasting hold. Finish with some hairspray. Bedhead Queen For The Day is perfect.

2. You never really know if those tips you're told when you're young are actually true. I always wondered if blasting my hair dry upside down really worked but after adding a bit of salt spray or mousse it really does amp up the volume!

3. Trusty back combing or teasing with your fingers is also a great way to add texture or volume - especially if you're wearing the undone messy waves style that everyone is loving so much at the moment. Gently tease the ends of your hair, add some spray wax and voila! Charles Worthington Volume & Bounce Texturising Spray is a great bargain product.

Must have product that makes your foundation last all day

Hellooo, sorry I haven't posted in a while! It's been a bit hectic with wedding season :)

Thought I'd let you guys know about an amazing product I came across a few months ago. Every lady has had one of those days when you will have applied your makeup in the morning, left the house and by the time you've got to work and looked in the mirror your foundation will have slid down your face and disappeared!!

No matter how expensive the foundation, it needs a good base to stay put. Introducing... Hydra Veil by Illamasqua! This primer cools and plumps the skin leaving it prepped and ready for your foundation. Having slightly oily skin myself I was a little worried it would make me oiler and highlight my pores as it says it is for a dryer skin type, but actually I found it regulated the oil and kept it at bay. Hydra Veil leaves skin a little dewy but not shiny and after working a 12 hour day all I found I needed was a little powder on my nose at lunchtime!

Only the tiniest piece of the product is needed and it's best applied with a foundation or buffing brush all over the face after a light moisturiser. I've been pairing it with the lovely Illamasqua Skin Base foundation for my bridal clients and they both sit lovely on the skin and photograph beautifully.

I have tried lots of different things in the past but never found anything that keeps my foundation looking this fresh all day. If any of you have trouble getting your makeup to stay put please give this a go!

Let me know if you give it a try! X

Time for a change!

The evenings are lighter and the sun has been showing his face! Is it time for the chop or a new colour?

I've been growing my hair for the last two years and although I would have loved to hold onto it (split ends and all) I knew I needed to be brave a go for a change! Every day I get to create luscious long locks and sleek silky bobs for my clients where I get lots of ideas from the requests that they ask me to do. I have been loving the 'midi' cut recently which is a style that is inbetween a bob and hair below your shoulders. This style is popular with the lovely Alexa Chung and Kylie Jenner.

Yesterday I closed my eyes as Steph took the first chop of my hair and after worrying I'm so glad it's been lopped off! You get a funny feeling of liberation when you go for a big hair change! It's like burning your bra in a protest!

Two of my other clients have gone for big changes with their hair recently.

This is my friend Megan who has had naturally dark hair all her life! It's always so shiny and a lovely deep brown colour, but being a typical lady, Megan wanted to try out something new. For this look we also took inspiration from Kylie Jenner's new hair colour and after two bleaching sessions and 8 hours later we came out with Megan's new look!

For this I used the balayage technique with bleach and cling film. Toned afterwards to stop the glow you get after bleaching.

Today Eloise was very brave and went for an even bigger change! After thinking about it for a year we changed her bob into a short crop. I always ask how long a client has been thinking about making a big change as I'd hate for it to be a last minute decision and then wake up in the morning to a phonecall asking me to stick all their hair back on!!

This was the final result. I think it suits her so much and I'm sure Eloise is feeling very liberated :)

Jo and Jakes Spring wedding in Arundel 2014

A couple of weekends ago I had the pleasure of creating bridal hair and make up for Jo and her bridesmaids for her lovely Spring wedding in Arundel.

For Jos hair we wanted to keep it relaxed but not too messy! I used a donut so we had a good base for the hair to pin to, which also gave a lovely shape to the bun. I then incorporated a large plait either side to give it a bohemian feel. We finished it with a gorgeous sparkle clip in the back which set the hair  off and gave it a special feel.

Each of the bridesmaids had a similar style which included volume, plaits and a messy or sleek bun. Not forgetting little George who didn't need his hair styling and looked lovely with his blonde curls!!

Makeup wise we went for glowy natural skin and the emphasis on Jos eyes. I used taupey champayney colours on the eye lid and blended a darker brown into the socket to make her eyes pop. For definition along the lash line I added a fine line of black gel liner pressed into the lashes.

Here are a few photos from their beautiful wedding by  -

Congratulations Jo and Jake!

Thank you for reading :)
